Who are you?

Hi there! My name is Phil and I will be your intensive exam course instructor!

What is your background?

I have over 15 years’ experience teaching all kinds of English - general, corporate, legal and sports. However, my specialty has always been teaching English exams.

I started teaching in my home city of Liverpool, at a language school where I taught the Cambridge exams and IELTS. I then moved to London and worked at a very prestigious Business English school where I completed my Cambridge Delta (with distinctions). In 2018 I moved to Madrid and now I live in Carabanchel!

I’ve taught every exam you can imagine - Cambridge (A2-C2), IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Bulats, Linguaskill, Aptis, LanguageCert, and STANAG 6001 (for the Guardia Civil and NATO).

Why do you enjoy teaching exams?

I’ve always loved teaching English exams. I like challenging my students and helping them achieve their goals, every step of the way. Each lesson has a very clear and specific outcome for us to work towards, just like going to a yoga or boxing class.

Do you work for a company?

No. I am now freelance (autónomo). I have worked for some fantastic organisations, including The BBC, Nike, Chelsea Football Club and the Spanish Air Force (Ejército del Aire y del Espacio). However, I decided it was time to go out on my own and start my own adventure!

Why should I study with you?

My students receive 100% of my focus and attention. There are no receptionists to deal with, inexperienced substitute teachers or false promises. I know the exams like the back of my hand and will give you expert, detailed feedback on where to improve. I also try and make the lessons as enjoyable as possible.

What else are you interested in?

Being from Liverpool, I absolutely love music and Liverpool Football Club. I enjoy talking to my students about books, films, TV series, food and travel. I also find it interesting to talk about politics, current affairs, technology and the environment. I like to keep an open mind to new ideas and possibilities.
